Document Summary

Steroids need to bind to its receptor to become a transcription factors, the goal is to have the cell react. There is a built in amplification inside the cell. Intracellular receptors are found in the cytoplasm or in the nucleus: signal cell will be released in the cell, then travel to reach its target cell, when it reaches there it will pass through the membrane. Its important to be able to turn on and off the transcription. Glucocorticoids: when you stressed your glands adrenal glands will secrete cortisol, cortisol will find its receptor, the receptor is in the cell and its inactive. It has proteins that are holding it when its inactive: the proteins will recognize cortisol and bind with it, then it will go into the nucleus, they will initiate the expression of there genes or turn it off. What can be done with the gradient is to do work (potential energy) can use it to power something else.
