Crm 1301 c: lecture# 2: beginning of demonic perspective. Oldest perspective on deviance in the middle ages. 1600s, more specifically 1693: time in society where there was a lot of puritanism and religious facilities held political power. Reverend"s daughters acted bizarre leading people to believe they were possessed, they were asked to name the witches who controlled them. Girls gave 3 names, 1 of their foreign caretaker tituba, another of a woman living with a man out of wedlock, and the last that of a homeless poor woman. All women were brought to trial, questioned over and over if they were witches and if they had seen. Tituba confessed as the officers were trained, educated individuals who asked leading questions, there were also any other techniques used to get a confession out. Exodus 22:18 thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. All 3 women were burned at the stake.
