Griffiths says: continuing education is a fundamental component in policing. Applies to any formal training institutions (go and learn how to become a police officer) The purpose is inform people about the unique rules and cultures of police work. Griffiths: attributes are communicated formally through training programs, which create suspicion and an us vs. them mentality. There is a formality to this form of training. Knowledge that doesn"t come through training, or textbooks, rather from the work of policing. Knowledge that is passed down from other members, authority etc. Critical to policing overreactions (black liberation movement, civil rights movement) Set of attitudes and behaviours that develop out the unique role police officers play and the duties they are asked to preform. : (policing produced these types of personalities: preoccupation with danger: cynical attitude toward human behaviour and humans in general.
