A sense of anomie perhaps related to a decline in national sentiment that has masked the radical nature of the industrial revolution. Anomie through metropolis: idea of a modern society is dehumanizing. Trends in postwar art: avant garde. Human body is transigured (relection of trench experience) People with ptsd, etc: counter culture reaction to degenerate" art, -> impressionism gets replaced by these.
