Commerce was a major reason for the exploration in the americas, europeans were seeking trade with the east (asia) and decided to go west in order to find new routes. They also had missionary zeal, they wanted to allow catholicism to grow in the new world. The final reason for exploration was education and learning. America in 1492 by sailing west from spain to try and find a route to asia. Amerigo vespucci (1454-1512) had voyages of 1503 and 1504 that may not have actually taken place. Actually had voyages in 1499, traveled through south america and the islands. First european who argues that the lands discovered are not a part of asia, is why the lands get named after him. Becomes the chief of navigation in spain and establishes a sea farer school.
