Document Summary
Release of potent exotoxins causes diseases: bacillus anthraces (disease anthrax) You get infected by animals and soil. The spores are very stable, they are resistant to heat, drying, uv, and disinfectants. The spores geminate and toxins are made. The plasmids contains factors that are transcribed at 37c. This exotoxin is composed of 3 separate proteins: * these proteins when separate are not toxic, but when they are all together they are lethal* Both the plasmids are required for virulence. Vaccine against pa protein is available: bacillus cereus (food poisoning) Causes food poisoning (when spores enter food products) Heat liable: cause nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Heat stable: more severe nausea and vomiting. has a short incubation period. Anaerobic. this differentiates this bacteria from the other spore-forming bacilli. Botulism, tetanus, gas gangrene and pseudomembranous colitis. Clostridium species have powerful exotoxins that require rapid diagnosis: clostridium botulinum (fatal food poisoning- ach blocker)
