Microscope: instrument that provides a magnified image of tiny objects. Cell theory: all organisms are composed of one or more cells, the cell is the structural unit of life, cells can arise only by division from pre-existing cells. *in vitro cells are an important tool of modern medicine. Cellular activities highly controlled (< 1 mistake in 10 million nucleotides), otherwise mutations occur. They are capable of knowing when to replicate or die; when this goes wrong, diseases occur (ability to self-regulate) Every cell has same dna; some is silenced in certain cells to make them different. Complexity and mutations allows for differences in humans (variation) Genes are blueprints for cellular structures, cellular activities and reproduction. Cells go from a mother cell and separate into 2 daughter cells. The process is mitosis , where the genetic material is duplicated and each of the new daughter cells receives a complete copy of the mother"s.
