Ventricular system: 2 lateral ventricles; 3rd ventricle in midline inner brain, 4th ventricle posterior to brainstem structures; continuous with central canal of spinal cord. Communication between 2 lateral ventricles called the foramen of monroe. Important landmark for levelling external drainage systems/transducers; level at eam (external auditory meatus), at tragus of ear. Contains water, glucose, o2, co2, na, k, cl, proteins, and a few.
