Document Summary

Inference (premises do connect to the conclusion). A series of causal factors that are not dependent. Conclusions can act as a premise in another argument. Arguments: they are implicit: therefore this is true . Therefore show that there was an inferences (conclusion). Premise indicators tell us that there is a premise to follow. Careful reading is necessary - must be able to figure out what exactly the words are saying. Test for conclusion indicator: replace the indicator with therefore and if the sentence still makes sense, then it is likely a conclusion indicator. If the premises of an argument are true, the conclusion must be true. Valid arguments can be right or wrong. Does not guarantee that the premises are actually true. Implied premises are premises of an argument that are not stated in the argument. Even if the premises are true, the conclusion doesn"t follow. Consists of a valid deductive argument where the premises are true.
