Myth that science and technology progress" to the beat of some invisible drummer (said by. This is a myth because sci/tech doesn"t work like this. R&d is in the hands of economic policy makers. Since ir, they have wanted sci/tech to increase production. England (where ir began), would think they are for sci/tech, but sometimes business does not want latest research creates problem for economy or success. Must get over idea that science is in hands of scientists since this is not true people who give them money decide what will happen. In 18th and 19th centuries (ir), textile industry was big new methods and transport ways, people liked to buy clothes etc. This had to do with 2 things: increase in cotton (and wool) production, developments in the weaving machine. Although these were big influences, they weren"t underpinned by science. Weaving machine was trial and error, not about science but developing new techniques for same products.
