Chapter 6: sensation and perception: basics of sensation, the must of sensation, 3 things must happen for us to sense: Energy must be translated into a message the brain can understand (electrochemical message) Translated to brain for it to understand: sensory receptors: detect, transduce and transmit. Other factors count: tired, emotional, motivation, cognitive: subluminal persuasion ***question*** Sensory adaptation: repeatedly exposed to harmless receptors (sensory receptors). If something isn"t dangerous, we want to block: circumventing sensory adaptation: instances where sensory adaptation doesn"t. Top-down perception: uses knowledge, experience, assumptions integrated and interpreted by our brain. Ex. ears and eyes analyzing info during the lectures. Definition: info collected by senses will be analyzed, organised, to interpret information. Ex. you take drugs then claim you hear voices when there are none.
