Neuroimaging techniques: technologies and methods that enable scientists to generate. Check to see if some parts aren"t firing or to find a reasoning as to why something physically isn"t developing properly. Seeing if there are any physical damages to the brain (tumour, brain bleed, etc. ) Three categories: measure electrical brain activity. Neuron firing: distinguish physical structures of the brain. Check the physical structure (is everything whole and in place: assess the functional and metabolic activity of the brain. Electrodes placed on the scalp: generates maps of neural activity. Two types of recording brain activity: eeg (spontaneous electroencephalography) Measures rhythms of electrical activity of neurons under stimulus conditions. Most common, usually what we start with: erp (event-related potentials) Measures electrical activity of specific brain areas in response to a particular stimulus or action. Magnetic field generated by electrical currents are detected by sensors on scalp. Doesn"t distort the image like eeg and erp: tms (trans-cranial magnetic stimulation)
