North america: 1950s: sex of any kind, even implied, was banned from tv. The notion is that mentioning sex will be detrimental to some listeners. Gender differences and sexual activity frequencies were typically the same for men and women. Most people are in the few times a month and 2-3 times a week. Ages 15-19: decrease in percentage of teenagers having sex. Males and females: same percentage of male and female teenagers having sex. Quebec numbers are highest for teenagers having sex: numbers increase and then decreased. Ontario: decrease in percentages having sex. Laumann et al (2006) surveyed people from around the globe: women have lower degree of sexual satisfaction than men, 31% of women had low interest in sex; 22% unable to have orgasms; 21% unable to enjoy sex; 20% had difficulty lubricating; 14% had painful intercourse: overlap in experiences.
