Phonetics deals with the acoustics of the sounds how you produce the sounds how represented in your brain. Phonology is your abstract representation of the sounds. Ex: phonetics individual dog breeds, phonology= category of dog. B and p are phonemes: have a function, two different things. Cat and caht (allophonic variation, you don"t give a crap). In thai 3 different categories (phonology), phonetics are just the sounds. Canadian raising: a thing infants need to learn (and a perceiver). To get to produce you need to perceive it first (99% of the time). They hear a different vowel- they assimilate to the ou. Present stimulus repeatedly and as you present over and over again- boredom (can be sucking, heart rate) ( ba ba ba ba ba for 4 minutes, then da you"d be like what- looking time increase) Should include post-test as well to ensure infant is still into the experiment.
