Have a tendency to divide ourselves into in-group and out-group; we want to protect. See people doing things > ex: obsessive rituals, talking to themselves. Never meet your gaze, don"t know how to talk back. Business man talking to himself = on the phone; dirty and disheveled man talking to himself = assume schizophrenia. Just knowing that someone has a disorder may change the way people think of them. Can"t really avoid; efficient way to categorize thing > not always accurate. Believe particular things about groups of people to be true. People less likely to rent to, hire them, marry them, arrest them, treated poorly in emergency room against people with mental disorders. Could just be quirky or is subject really creative. People are scared to speak up because they don"t have obvious cues.
