Substance-use disorders: a problematic pattern of alcohol use leading to clinically. A: need for more to get same effects. Substance related and addictive disorders significant impairment or distress as manifested by at least two of the (11) following occurring within a 12-month period. B: same or similar substance taken to relieve/ avoid withdrawal symptoms. Substance- induced disorders: this actually includes intoxications, substance-induced mental disorders. Tolerance: needs increasing amounts of the drug to get the same effect. Withdrawal: negative physiological response to lack of ingestion. Affects many different biological systems (gama, glutamate, serotonin, dopamine, endogenous opioids) But depends on genetic vulnerability frequency, duration, blood alcohol levels, time between binges. Men: 15 drinks a week with no more than 3 drinks a day. Women: 10 drinks a week with no more than 2 drinks a day. 19% of those consume above the recommended limits.
