It all starts with the eye, light is bent by the cornea and goes in through the lens (near far focus). The lens of the cornea controls how much light gets into the cornea. Cataracts are clouding of the lens, allows less light. The eye communicates with the brain via the optic nerve. Red eye (in photos) is the flash reflecting off the blood vestals in the retina.
