PSY 4130 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Experimental Psychology, Personnel Selection, World War Ii
Document Summary
The materials used to reconstruct lives, events, eras. Data fragments- descriptions written by participants, letters, diaries, interviews, official accounts etc. Secondary sources (documents that have been published, autography on freud, books, journals, etc) (written after that event occurred and usually summarises the event) Primary sources (archives) (written at or near the time that the event occurred) Information at the university where the person worked (ex: speech recorded) Problems with writing of history: data selection problems. Difficulties assessing the worth of the data: lost or suppressed (lost temporarily or permanently) Supressed: freud"s materials to be opened in the 21st century. Altered: for self-interest or to protect the reputation of people. Reliability of eyewitness accounts: data distorted in translation. Deliberately: freud"s use of ich (1), einfall (intrusion) : terms are not accurately translated. Lack of equivalents between languages ex: gestalt (even if that is not english because there is not word that would be accurate. )
