Who (world health organization): health is the state of complete physical, mental, and social wellbeing. Health does not depend solely on the absence of disease and sickness. Health is socially defined and therefore varies over time and between cultures. Medicine: an institutionalized system for the scientific diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of illness. Healthcare: any activity designed to improve health. View that people are normally healthy and contribute to their society. Emphasize the political, economic, and social forces that affect health and the healthcare system and the inequities that result from these forces. Debate over the allocation of money for research and treatment for different diseases. Advocates for different diseases compete for funds. Groups representing victims of particular diseases lobby governments, which creates a hierarchy of diseases and the government support of research. Feminist perspective feminist scholars have studied many different aspects of health and healthcare: Male centred research which ignored doseases that primarily affected females.
