Fallacies of common sense and the principles of sociological research. Typically wonder why people act or behave the way they do, when they act out of the social norm. People with many body piercings are weird, psycho, etc. Sociologists look beyond this, and look to the social context in which their behaviour occurs. Could be seen as an act of resistance against mainstream beauty, or of any sort of social norms, a spiritual right of passage, or a lost form of expression. Sense we have in common, a meaning we all share, what everybody knows. Not all things that are common sense are true, most are false. Women are more likely to be assaulted than men. Rates of murder and other violent crimes have steadily increased over the past twenty years. Most sexual assaults and rapes are commited by strangers. Since they"re so duh , they"re hard to refuse the belief.
