Document Summary

As notochord became primary supporting mechanism - persisted into other forms. Needed support for further mechanisms in different animals. Centrum is part of main body of vertebrate. The notochord is persistent in many species but just changes. From fish to tetrapod - (even humans) developed a vertebral column/element. Reduced role of notochord - humans developed but material is utilized in other areas and not for same purpose. Dorsal neural spine - what we feel. Supporting neural arch - under neural spine - protects spinal cord. In between these - there is ossification and they fuse together. One diminishes and the other persists and is dominant. The dominance is different in species - varies across species. Hemal arch - surround hemal artertary or a vascular structure. Interhemal ach - interhemal arch is between hemal arches. Basic axial skeletal anatomy - typical of amniote. Pleurocentrum - major elements of amniote vertebral body - persistent throughout the whole column.
