Nigeria has a high islamic population (you can put the pieces together) Obinze enters the u. k by claiming to be his mother"s research assistant and was returned home via force, unlike ifemelu. Obinze visits book stores and reads american fiction. Obinze is outside of nigeria, but in the wrong place since he wants to go to america. Ifemelu is living in a more fantasy like world: she is legal, has a good education, has a job etc. Ifemelu and obinze come from middle class lives and deal with things together. They both need satisfaction and so enjoy casual or passionate sex with mates: ifemelu is with blaine, obinze is with some girl he finds.
