Important to be mindful of botanical illustrations: use of color, get a sense of how it looks 3-d by showing different views of it. Illustration of plants have evolved over time: modern illustrations show more information, view of plant growing in nature, scale bar. Image of carrot: meant to reflect biology of plants, so, biologists can use it, unlike the monet painting, rudbeckia, shows plant as a whole, different views of floral structures and seeds, scale bars. Leaf: blade main part of leaf, petiole connects stem to actual leaf, sessile have no petiole. Inflorescence group of flowers organized according to certain rules : huge diversity of inflorescence.
