PSY395H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Theca, Pineal Gland, Sertoli Cell
Document Summary
Psy395 may 13, 2015 l2: the endocrine system. Autocrine: chemical signaling comes back to cells to inluence that same cell that secreted that chemical signaling. Genital glands will rel"s for possible mates to pick up on. Each hormone has own receptor and can travel to every cell. Endocrine structures for intesines rel"s insulin into bloodstream. Hormones can act in nucleus to afect transcripion. Since can"t cross lipid bilayer, act on receptors on cell membrane. Larger the protein, it takes longer to degrade and excreted. Stays longer in bloodstream and can be soluble in blood. Measured by radioacive material atached to hormone and observe how long 50% of it is degraded. Throughout evoluion there have been point mutaions that has changes the sequence of the hormone but not the func"t of the protein. Can act same way but there are small changes and can cause mutant rxn if exchange b/w species despite same funcion.
