Document Summary

For most of human history we didn"t have prisons as a kind of punishment so why do we have it now: one, it is a shift to punishment of the mind. Most of the punishments we used to use were physical punishments to the body like ogging or whipping. Penitentiary: the kingston penitentiary was made in 1835. Correctional profile: majority of inmates are young male, under-housed, single, low-skilled, low education, dysfunctional and unstable minorities, there is a lot of problems in this population. You need to nd a way to address the low education and low skills, and the poor: we are putting more people in prison. More hygiene products, treatment, etc: women are more likely to seek healthcare which is also a possible factor to their expenses, almost everybody gets out of incarceration. Types of correctional institutions: minimum security: no guards, no fences, etc.
