Document Summary
The politics of gender inequality: 2 cases of gender inequality: the labor market and politics, the gender wage cap: the difference between men"s wage and women"s wage. Women tend to work part time: men earn a dollar for example. Gender wage cap in ontario in 2011 is 26%. This means that when men earn a dollar, women earn 74-88 cents. This includes only women working full-time: 1987 pay equity act was the first act that measured this wage gap. This is due to women having lower pay jobs, including childcare, principle of school: some women leave for domestic responsibilities or fraternity leaver, there is also discrimination at the point of hiring and promotion by the employer. Equity act in 1987 tried to address this: second example of gender inequality: political representation, women and the house of commons, the women percentage in the house of commons is around 20-25% (25 in 2011).
