By the end of today"s lecture, you should: have a better understanding of how canadian halfway houses operate, and, be able to explain how halfway house workers position themselves vis- -vis parole officers. This may include life skills, substance abuse, employment and/or crisis counselli(cid:374)g. (cid:863: there are around 150 halfway houses in canada, which are run by different ngos. In addition, there are 15 government-run facilities called community correctional centres: halfway houses developed in the 1950s, the majority of halfway house residents are on day parole, but: increasing number of halfway house residents on statutory release. In addition, they must report to the halfway house by 6 pm daily. Risk of parole revocation if residents fail to show up for curfew: the halfway house institution itself can impose additional curfews. Halfway house living the (cid:862)le(cid:448)el yste(cid:373)(cid:863: orientation. Cannot leave halfway house past 6 pm.
