Physical environment: where organisms can live, what resources are available, pop. Ex: high altitude -> only certain organisms can survive/thrive in that specific environment. Climate = long term description of weather: weather = current conditions -> temp. precip. , humidity, cloud cover. Chemical environment comp or soil, water, air. > global temperature patterns = a large band of sun: influences weather w? surface heating + uplift. Global atmospheric circulation: tropical zone: 30 n 30 s, temperate zones: 30 60 n & s, polar zones: 60+ n & s. Seasonal changes = tilt of the eath + rotation around the sun. Determinants of organisms" ability to survive = extreme temperatures of their climate: florida = not much variation in temp (approx 10 deg. , russia/asia = up to 60 deg. Need to be really adapted to live there year round. Equatorial tropical rainforest -> more even climate, lots of precip. Temperate deciduous forest -> na/eu/china, more dry, often cold.
