If the growth rate is unrelated to population density, then there are other factors that regulate the population. If population growth rate correlates with density, then possibility that there is a density- dependent factor going on. Density-dependent variation: fluctuation around k: r = population growth rate, after a while you"ll get 0 growth. Fluctuation in the logistic model: makes the equation dependent on the population in the past. The size of the fluctuation depends on r : when tau gets bigger, you can tell that the population will take longer to equiliberate and respond based on the time-lag.
