BIOB51H3 Lecture 6: LEC 6 June 19 Populations and Migration
Document Summary
On some islands, there are bears with an allele a1 (albino like), on the mainland bears have a2 (not albino). If a1 is fixed on the islands, that means all the individuals are a1a1. Island allele frequencies: a1= 1 ; a2= 0. Island genotype frequencies: a1a1= 1 ; a1a2= 0; a2a2=0. If a2 is fixed on the mainland, that means all the individuals are a2a2. Mainland allele frequencies: a1= 0 ; a2= 1. Mainland genotype frequencies: a1a1= 0 ; a1a2= 0; a2a2= 1. If 200 bears from the mainland migrate to join the 800 bears on the island then new allele frequencies are: Frequency (a1) = (2 x 800) + 0) / (2 x 1000) = 0. 8. Frequency (a2) = (2x 200) + 0) / (2 x 1000) = 0. 2. Agouti mice a1a1 are on the island and non-agouti a2a2 are on the mainland.
