ENGB35H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 15: Northrop Frye, Mere Christianity, Israel Hands
Document Summary
Engb35 lecture 15 the lion, the witch and the wardrobe. A sort of pre-baptism of the imagination [that would] make it easier for children to accept christianity when they met it later in life (lewis) I thought i saw how stories of this kind could steal past certain inhibitions which had paralyzed much of my own religion in childhood. Why did one find it so hard to feel as one was told one ought to feel about god or about the suffering of christ: nostalgic view of the lion, the witch and the wardrobe, connection with christianity. I thought the chief reason was that one was told one ought to. The whole subject was associated with lowered voices, almost as if it were something medical. Sometimes fairy stories may say best what"s to be said ) the christian values are present but it"s not restricted to how children should behave regarding christian values.
