PSYA01H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: James Mill, Luigi Galvani, Paul Broca
Document Summary
Lecture 02 notes (1. 1): there"s no soul in psychology. Science doesn"t say things like religion are wrong but it does say concepts like religion are useless. Science is based on prediction and prediction is based on their being constraints in place that are determining where behaviors gone. We call people intelligent because they"re good and succeeding/doing something well and we do not understand how they do it. But once we understand how they do it, then the magic is gone. Failing to understand is what makes it seems special or cool". Rene descartes (philosopher): animals don"t have a soul, they are like complicated machines. According to rene, dualism means that there are two different ways behaviors come from a human. There was also a soul in control of the machine (pineal gland in brain is the place where soul interface with the biological machinery)
