PSYA01H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Operational Definition
Document Summary
Negative correlation: (e. g. -1) as one variable increases, the other variable. Two variables are related but have a third variable that relates the two. Wealthy families = better nutritional food = more tall = more connection to other wealthy people = high-paying jobs. E. g. poor relationship causes tv watching or tv watching causes poor relationship. Sometimes there is nothing we can do: in many situations documenting a relation is the best we can do because of constraints that cannot be circumvented. When possible though, correlational studies suggest theories that can be used to derive testable hypotheses: paving the way for experiments! Sharks are very picky eaters do not like humans, only fish. Cages send out electrical signals to sharks, which mess them up don"t know what is in the water (i. e. humans, fish) Simplest form of experiment contains experimental condition and control condition.
