PSYA01H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Gene Knockout, Intelligence Quotient, Job Performance
Document Summary
Intelligence has no objective standard of comparison for accuracy, so testing relies heavily on methods of measuring. Learn through senses = people with superior sensory abilities learn more = abilities are an indicator of intelligence. Galton developed 17 sensory tests (difference thresholds, absolute thresholds of sound, vision etc. ) Anthropometrics: methods of measuring physical and mental variation in humans. When tested on university students there was no or weak correlation between different senses, and if the different senses can"t correlate than they can"t predict the same thing; also grades didn"t correlate with sensory scores. Intelligence and thinking: the stanford - binet test. Binet thought intelligence indicated complex thinking process, memory attention, comprehension. Intelligence: ability to think, understand, reason and adapt to or overcome obstacles. French government wanted to be able to identify gifted" from retarded" kids so they can offer specific education. They developed 30 tests of increasing difficulty that measured mental age.
