Freud had a theory of the development of personality. Had stages of personality development described it into very different ways. Sigmund freud medical doctor, was a physiologist. People in his time tried to understand the inner mind looked at perception in labs. Freud was fascinated by ailments and had unique powers of observation. Antoine mesmer also focused on the mind. Doctor, interested in similar ailments as freud. Mesmer was interested in magnetism was putting magnetic rods in to water and had people sit into the water.
