Document Summary

Daily objectives: situational, physical, and psychological factors that contribute to attraction, hedonic and approval motives and their susceptibility to social influence, compare conformity and obedience. Greatest factor in our attraction to each other is simply situational. We try hard to like the people that we are around. Mere exposure effect: tendency to like people and be attracted to them more just by being around them, this is because of: Getting to know them more: especially true in psychologically arousing situations. We are more attracted to people who are similar to ourselves: level of education, religion, ses, personality. Why are we attracted to similarity: easy interaction, makes us feel confident that we are right, people who are more similar to us also like us more! Approval motivation also causes us to be obedient to authority. The tendency to do what powerful people tell us to do.
