Psychological science is based on studies and on research done by psychologists. Psychologists are empiricists which means that they base their conclusions on systematic observations. Producers are basically people who produce research information by conducting research (ex. Studying the brain, observing children in a school setting, or analyzing data) Consumers are basically people who enjoy reading research information (ex. Reading about things to apply it in a later situation. ) Important to be able to know good from bad research and to be able to do that you should understand research methods as well as be able to analyze it with a critical eye (ex. Clinical psychologists, social workers all need to be able to read research in order to know which therapists are the most effective) Evidence based treatments therapies that are supported by research.
