Significant abnormalities are found with those that have more than 3 sex chromosomes. Turner syndrome- (45,x) receives only single x chromosome instead of the usual pair. Normal female external appearance and genitalia, but infertile due to abnormally developed ovaries (short stature, skin folds in neck, difficulty with spatial relation tasks); chromosomal mosaicism. Klinefelter syndrome- 47/xxy; reduced fertility and hormone count to promote the development of secondary male sex characteristics and to inhibit female characteristics. Normal intelligence but can have delayed and reduce verbal skills. Left-handedness in some male may be effects of brain lateralization or localization of language in one hemisphere or the other. 47, xyy- slightly taller and leaner; have higher risk of minor physical abnormalities in the eye, elbow, and chest. Drop in average age of puberty (from 16 to 12): may be due to abnormal body fat in the body, exposure to estrogen. Sex hormones are steroids derived from cholesterol.
