Distance of galaxies from our galaxy is directly proporionate to the redshit. Note hubble thought this from doppler shit meaning the object is moving through space. But it is not the case as the galaxies we are looking at aren"t moving, rather all of space is expanding, hence causing the space between us to increase. These are cosmological redshits caused by space itself expanding. Recall that objects cannot move faster than c, but space itself can and does expand at a rate far faster than c this would be the speeds associated with the redshits we observe. An explosions makes it so that objects in the universe end up in diferent places; an expansion keeps them in the same area, with space as a whole expanding.
