AST251H1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Aurora, Giant Planet, Orion Nebula
Document Summary
The ozone layer protects us from uv radiation from the sun. The environment has to be stable for thousands of millions of years. The distance from the sun determines how much light it gets and how hot it is. The size of the planet will determine if it has a molten core. The habital zone is the distance from the sun where liquid water can exist on the planets surface. If its too close, the water evaporates and if its too far, the water freezes. Being i the habital zone does(cid:374)"t mean you have life, there can be life outside the habital zone. They are important because they help build our atmosphere because they release complex gasses. The magnetic field protects us from the sun because the sun has a solar wind which is highly energetic particles and when the solar wind hits the earth, it takes away particles and it deals damage to the organsms.
