Document Summary
Sexual system are the organisms hermaphroditic or do they have separate sexes: dioecious. Not cloning gametes are involved here, i. e. sex with yourself. Parthenogenesis asexual reproduction in the form of cloning. In water fleas, daphnia, different reproductive systems occur in different environments. The water fleas have two different types of reproductive systems. They can mix strategies (facultative) depending on their environment. Many perennial plants reproduce through both sexual and clonal reproduction e. g. water hyacinth . Multiplied largely by clonal propagation i. e. making copies of itself. Which mechanism is determined by its location in the population (edge or centre) There"s the potential for sex here (but there"s only one of the forms in this population) Costs of sex: time and energy to find and attract mates i. e. peacock"s tail, increased energetic costs, risk of predation and infection sometimes, when animals are looking for mates, they tend to become more vulnerable to predation.
