Document Summary

Multicellular development required morphogenesis and cell differentiation. Multicellular development can be studied in a variety of model organisms: each are particularly good @ studying a specific process, studied process can then be applied to other organisms. Gene conservation levels are generally quite high. Multicelular development also creates organs w/in organisms: can see both the development of animals and the development of organs within those animals-organs are surprisingly complex. Multicellular development also continually occurs in adults through stem cells: still rely on the processes driving embryogenesis in maturity, skin is continually shedding and developing new. If you stopped stem cell division-would totally lose skin within a few weeks: adults can also initiate new developmental processes. Develop alveolar sacs, apical side faces lumen and secretes milk particles. Secretes constantly, filling the sac so baby can drink. Best studied form of multicellular development is embryogenesis: earliest stages of mouse development is very similar to humans, stage 1-single cell.
