Document Summary

Certain vitamins can be useful for cofactors and breaking down some carboyhydrates. Cholesterol can be used to make vitamin d. General scheme of metabolism is a cycle --> breaking stuff down and making new things. We want to harvest the energy found in chemical bonds and save as atp which can be used for anabolic processes like ion transport, biosynthesis etc. Recall glycogen where you keep these molecules for later use. Oxidative phosphorylation regenerates atp and it completes the cycle. We break down energy nutrients to create chemical energy. Nadh, nadph, fadh2 etc all used to store energy to use to make complex molecules. All of the above used to make atp in the end. Exergonic = energy released ; endergonic = energy used up. Amphibolic intermediate: molecule made halfway through the process that is used for structures of larger macromolecules. The breakdown of fuel compounds and release of free energy to generate atp or other intermediates.
