Document Summary

Could not have made until the time it was. (influenced by past styles/developments) Distinctive film, represents something different in the time period it was released in. Received many bad reviews when it came out. (how did it go from that to one of the classic movies of the 60"s?) Period film, bank robbers set in the 1930"s. (how did it attract its audience by being a period film?) Not made in the same way films were made during that time period. 1967, films were made in color due to the popularization of color tv. (technological, industrial and aesthetic issues) Historiography: the writing of history, the study of history writing especially as an academic discipline. Audience = youth, student uprising, desire for change in society. Aesthetic loose-ness (editing, camera shots), lots of jump cuts, (cuts were uncomfortable/unnecessary) It made crime glamourized (make mistakes, at least we didn"t follow the system that our parents followed) and very anti-authority (against banks and police))
