History of greece and civilizaion is characterized by compeiion for power and fear of the powerful. Fear played a greater part than loyalty to the raising of the expediion against troy. Thucydides" model for human behaviour: self-interest governs the acions of people and states; but that doesn"t mean their calculaions are always correct or reliable. Does not say that acing out of fear or pursuit of power is a good thing, but actually gets people in trouble all of the ime. People acted out of impulse, and thus things would go wrong.
