Issues in policing/introduction to criminal courts/pre-trial decision making. It is not easily amenable to a particular definition But clearly a highly appealing concept (friedman 1992) Very difficult to get police officials to provide a refine definition of community policing. A philosophy focusing on the police and public working together to influence the management and delivery of police services. Localized: knows about the different races and genders in each community (is aware of this) Decentralized: communicated through local community police officers and police services, where they hear from local residence and create a strategy that works for that community. Community tries to build up trust in the community in regards to information and information in crimes. It is a form of increased social control (net-widening) It is an imprecise concept - impossible to define. It is meaningless, rhetorical term, that includes each and every new policing initiative. Everything is sold and marketed as community policing.
