The idea of community policing is almost 200 years old: sir robert peel, 1829. Problem solving means addressing identified local crime and disorder problems by finding patterns among similar incidents. Environmental design approach: reduce opportunities for crime: may include more intensive policing in crime locations at higher risk of crime (hot spots) Community partnership: problems are viewed as shared problems with shared solutions, social service agencies. Modern definitions of community replace geography with local and on-local social networks that are increasingly nation and global in scope: community as network, global village, technological innovations have transformed the nature of community.
