Students who study history in high school bring over the same assumpions taught to them when they go to university. Idea of coningency history is one mistake ater another. History is poliics when books get published, editors tell you how to format it because they"re looking to target a speciic market. Noion that everything in itself becomes a kind of game. Most dramaic example in the book was when hector asks how you can teach the holocaust. Can"t answer it without demeaning the sufering involved. Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent. Noion that history has lost its purpose students being taught to desensiize and distance themselves from the events. Somehow, history can treat all events as if they were the same.
