For change to happen, not only do circumstances have to be powerful, but for a revolution to occur, there has to be an alternative. We"re now going to see another kind of reaction against the middle ages. We"ve seen the social and political and economic action. For a revolution to happen, you needed something different. They were creating a whole new world, a new vocabulary of reality. To validate the concept of human experience on earth, and to see if values and principles will be common to all humans, and it is this revolution that altered the way we saw the world. Humanism comes from italian slang, referring to the humanities. It"s not really the word, it"s where it came from. The period of change brought about by the rise of towns and brought about by a money economy came in part because in the 12th century, there was a huge recovery of roman law.
