Theory was accepted in 17th century and proposer, descartes, realized that he need to satisfy the am method for it to get accepted. Cartesian metaphysics: in order to make sure that you accept what is true, you have to start doubting everything. Only thing left is that i doubt therefore i think and from that i exist . From this you know the supreme being, god, exists. Descartes need to prove the existence of god to prove the existence of the material world. Thus, everything that i perceive clearly and distinctly, must be true. [b/c if not then god is deceiver which can"t be true] Also, states that i perceive clearly and distinctly that my sensations are caused by external objects. Argument: god"s benevolence (god is a supreme being, is all good), Clear/distinct idea are true (everything that i perceive clearly and distinctly is in fact true).
